We are co-organising a wonderful symposium in Brussels on 23 May: Governing Artificial Intelligence Designing Legal and Regulatory Responses. Send your abstract by 7 April 2023 and register here for free: https://protect.oeg.fi.upm.es/protect-symposium/.
The PROTECT ITN, TCD’s Technologies, Law and Society and VUB’s Law, Science, Technology & Society research groups are co-organising the first PROTECT International Symposium on Governing Artificial Intelligence: Designing Legal and Regulatory Responses to be held at at Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB)’s Etterbeek campus on 23 May 2023.
The symposium will examine the legal and regulatory challenges posed in the fourth industrial revolution by the advent of AI. Contributors to the symposium will seek to engage creatively with the benefits offered by AI, dangers posed and potential legal and regulatory approaches. AI brings unparalleled opportunities but significant ethical, legal, and regulatory challenges, raising issues that frequently transcend national boundaries. Algorithmic engagement with big data, machine learning, autonomous vehicles, and robo-advisors (to name but a few) are challenging incumbent practices and firms. This evolution gives rise to new issues which hold significance, not just for private parties, but for governments, legislators, regulators, policymakers, and courts and, more broadly, for how fields of law respond to AI’s emergence.
The symposium is welcoming interdisciplinary submissions in the fields of law, ethics and technology and a complete list of topics is available at https://protect.oeg.fi.upm.es/protect-symposium/.
Looking forward to seeing you in Brussels!
